Counselling on contraception is part of the midwife's remit and more and more midwives offer contraceptive care to women. This starts with a contraceptive consultation. But what questions do you ask a woman? What information should not be missing and how do you choose an appropriate contraceptive method together? And on the other hand, what do you yourself encounter when counselling about contraception? Do you include your own preferences? And how do you deal with dissatisfaction?

The training MIO contraception consultation is intended for anyone who counsels women about contraception. It does not matter whether you have much or little experience and whether you place spirals and/or implantable rods yourself or not. The training is designed to add value to everyone who counsels about contraception.

During the training MIO contraception consultation engage with fellow midwives about the Delivering good contraceptive care to women. In doing so, there is room to reflect on your own actions and learn from each other. Prior to the meeting, all participants will prepare hun vision of the most complete contraceptionconsultation for. This is used as a guide during the MIO training. This will include various components such as anamnesis, wishes, counselling and organisation. Finally all participants can a case study of your own from practice present to the group. This case study will be treated in a systematic manner. At the end of the MIO, you can use the knowledge gained to set up or improve a contraception consultation yourself.

The training MIO contraception consultation will be provided by Wendy Wielenga or Mignon van Lammeren.

Wendy Wielenga is an obstetrician and contraception specialist. In 2018, she specialised in contraceptive care. Her main motivation is to put good contraceptive care on the map. Wendy has extensive experience in counselling on contraception and in placing spirals and the implantable rod. As an in vivo trainer, Wendy is qualified to train midwives to place spirals.

Mignon van Lammeren is an obstetrician in Amsterdam. Mignon has extensive experience in delivering contraceptive care. In 2012, she started with a dedicated spiral clinic. By responding to the needs of our clients, it can offer women this extra care even after their pregnancy. As an in vivo trainer Mignon authorised to train midwives to place spirals. 

During the training MIO contraception consultation learn:

• - what a complete contraception consultation looks like 
• - what questions you can ask the woman during the anamnesis in a contraception consultation 
• - what information you give the woman during a contraception consultation
• - value-free counselling
• - how to logistically organise a contraception consultation
• - how to apply these new insights and information in your own practice
